Collectible vintage designer dress from Mollie Parnis! She was known for her beautiful, feminine dresses and this one from the very early 1950's or possibly 1949, is no exception. Dior's New Look styling defines this Mollie Parnis navy pleated wool crepe (possibly wool/rayon crepe blend) dress with original matching belt. As with many of Ms. Parnis' earlier designs, her name is on the back of the belt as well as the label.
The skirt is lined with tulle and pleated with alternating rows of satin. the bodice is lined with satin and the waist is perfectly cinched. The pleating is reminiscent of Sybil Connely's and is so much more beautiful in person than can be represented by the photographs. A truly exceptional example of Mollie Parnis' designs, in excellent condition and ready to wear. The light in the photographs shows through the fabric but there is absolutely no discoloration and it is just a result of the photography. Sorry about that!
