Our vintage swimwear collection includes swimsuits, rompers, playsuits and beach ensembles from major fashion designers from the 1940's, 1950's, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Up until the early part of the 20th Century, women would only splash in ocean waves while holding on to a rope attached to a buoy. It wasn't until 1915 that women athletes started to participate in the sport of swimming with men. Once they started actually swimming, women found the fabric-laden swim ensembles they were wearing much too heavy, leading to the first of the "swimming" swimsuits! From that point, swimsuits have been changing and evolving, becoming an important part of fashion history.
You can find a vintage romper to wear on the beach, a playsuit to wear on the boardwalk, or a vintage bikini to wear in the pool! Once you've owned a vintage swimsuit you will understand why we think they are so special. Some collectible swimsuit designers include Rose Marie Reid, Carolyn Schnurer, Tina Leser, Claire McCardell, Rudi Gernreich, DeWeese, and companies like Jantzen, Catalina, and Gabbar. So whether it's an itsy bitsy bikini or a skirted one piece, you can find your style in vintage!
